I live in North Texas where allergies are common. I have used many different products in the past with limited success. Once my doctor put me on Flonase I experienced great results. Flonase allowed me to breathe at night and virtually cured me of my daytime allergies.
Occasionally, I notice dry nostrils, but they are much easier to cope with than the allergies.

I have had a heart attack, stroke, and blood clots in my lungs due to a blood disorder called Factor V Leiden. I had been on Coumadin for about 18 months and my INR would not regulate. My doctor placed me on Plavix so I wouldn’t have to continue with weekly blood tests.
About three months after stopping Coumadin and using Plavix, I had several clots in my lungs which caused me to stay in the hospital for about 12 days. The idea of not having weekly blood test sounded great, but I was not protected against clots and had to quit using Plavix and start back on Coumadin.

Allegra works great for me! I've used Claritin and Zyrtec in the past but still prefer Allegra. I always take advantage of the mail in rebate. With the mail in rebate, I can get my prescription cheaper than buying the OTC brands.

I live in an area with an extremely high pollen count. Also, I have a fairly damp and dusty basement. Zyrtec helps reduce my sneezing and stuffy nose that I get with seasonal allergies. It is especially useful for when I am mowing the lawn!

I tend to eat a lot of spicy foods and caffeine-related products and do suffer from acid reflux and heartburn. I was referred to try Prilosec and was extremely happy with the results of it. I didn't encounter the heart beating fast or the cramping-type feel in my chest after I tried Prilosec. I would definitely recommend it. I experienced no side effects.

I took this on a description by my doctor as I had severe anxiety and depression because of failing in my MS exams. I had no other option by taking this. The side effects weren't so bad as I only felt dizziness in the morning but had a good sleep after its intake.

As someone that's prone to upper-respiratory infections & bronchitis, I rely on Delsym every winter. I've tried many different cough medicines over the years, but none of them work as well as Delsym at suppressing violent coughing. Delsym is especially helpful at allowing me to get some sleep while i'm sick. It doesn't make me drowsy or anything, but just helps me breathe better. The added benefit is that it's orange flavor is much better tasting than most other cough syrups.
I haven't had any side effects while using this medication.

As a patient with severe pan-Ulcerative Colitis, I had to take large doses of Prednisone for an extended period of time. As a result I ended up with awful heart burn and acid reflux. I tried many different medications--both OTC & prescription-strength to help me deal with these issues. I tried using Prilosec after Nexium had previously done little or nothing to help me out. Prilosec was slightly more helpful than Nexium, but it definitely did not do the trick. I eventually found Prevacid to be much more helpful in controlling my acid reflux and heart burn.
I didn't experience any side effects from Prilosec though.

I am prone to upper respiratory infections & bronchitis and a 5 day Z-Pack usually does the trick and gets me back up on my feet. The medicine is pretty strong though & I usually have issues tolerating it the first day with it's double-strength dose. I usually end up with a mild bout of diarrhea. As a result, I try to take it on a full stomach and eat plenty of rice to mitigate the effects.
Either way, 1 night of diarrhea is definitely worth getting rid of a nasty respiratory infection within 5 days.

As a patient with severe pan-ulcerative colitis I suffered through excruciating bouts of chronic diarrhea. Before I ended up having a 3-step J-Pouch procedure, I was enrolled in an experimental drug trial that prohibited me from using an medications with hydrocortisone. As a result, my doctor recommended calmol-4 suppositories to help soothe my rectum and anus from the abuse it was taking from my disease.
While the suppositories didn't really help "fight" my disease at all, they did succeed in providing me with some cooling & soothing relief.

When I was initially diagnosed with a chronic illness (severe pan-ulcerative colitis) after its dramatic sudden onset, I spent several months in a few different hospitals while struggling to get the disease under control. At times I became very depressed at my bleak outlook and even experienced a panic attack or 2 after some awful encounters I had in one hospital in particular. At certain times I was given Ativan to calm me down, & to relax me when I was extremely worked up and distraught. I was given the drug intravenously and it worked amazingly. Within minutes I was at ease and experiencing a drug-like high. I was also given the drug while I was being transferred to different hospitals in order to mildly sedate me for my comfort.
The drug definitely does what it's supposed to do (and does it well), but I would imagine that it could be become EXTREMELY addictive if taken on a regular basis. It's not something to take unless you REALLY need it.

Up until recently, I've been using Singulair in conjunction with other asthma medications to control my mild to moderate exercise induced asthma. I started taking it towards the end of high-school and throughout college as a varsity athlete to control my asthma symptoms. The medications I took with Singulair (including advair) worked well together & I never had any significant side effects that I noticed.
However, I always had random people warning me that the drug had a wide range of side effects that weren't fully understood. After the recent announcement of the FDA that Singulair can cause depression and contribute to mental illness, I have stopped the drug & don't intend to take ever again unless it's very necessary. After I discontinued taking Singulair, and continuing the use of my other medications I have felt no ill effects and don't notice any differences--even during strenuous workouts. It made me wonder just how important & useful it really was for me.

Whenever I start getting sick or an upper-respiratory infection, Mucinex is one of the first over-the-counter medications I turn to. It's by far one of the best OTC expectorants and helps me get better much quicker. I haven't had any negative side effects.
Overall, this is a great medication.

As a high school and collegiate athlete, my performance was occasionally hampered by exercise-induced moderate asthma. After using Advair every day for a few months, I began to notice a stark difference in my endurance and rarely had any asthma attacks. This is the best asthma controlling medication that i've encountered. I'd just caution people not to get complacent and stop the use of Advair because their asthma seems under control. Whenever I experiment with idea of discontinuing it, I usually begin to notice a difference within a few weeks.
It's a great medication, just remember to rinse your mouth after using it to avoid getting thrush.

After contracting an anti-biotic resistant strain of C-Diff, I was prescribed Vancomycin in conjunction with 2 other antibiotics to treat my infection. After 2 months, everything worked & I was able to get rid of the infection.
The only side effect I encountered was persistent fatigue and I needed a lot more rest than usual.

As a patient with severe pan-ulcerative colitis, I looked for any medication that might be able to spare me from 3-life altering surgeries. Even though Remicade is more commonly used for treating Crohn's Disease than UC, some doctors do use it in patients with severe UC and that are either resistant to or dependent on steroids.
While Remicade is known to potentially cause some serious side-effects like Lymphoma and other infections, I didn't suffer any significant side effects from the drug. However, it didn't help me at all either and was unsuccessful in controlling my UC.

After using Prednisone for far too long, I developed awful heart-burn and acid reflux. I tried using several of drugs like nexium to control my symptoms, but none of them worked as well as Prevacid. The only downside to Prevacid is that it gave me moderate dry mouth & a metallic taste in my mouth at times.

As a patient with severe pan-ulcerative colitis, my experiences with Prednisone can best be described as a Love/Hate relationship. Extremely high dosages of Prednisone was the most effective treament for controling my flares. However, it's a drug that you are NOT supposed to take for long periods of time. Unfortunately, every time my doctor attempted to ween me off of it & lowered my dosage, I ended up with a serious flare that usually put me in the hospital. I've taken Prednisone both intravenously & orally.
While my doctors informed me of the urgency of getting off prednisone ASAP, I kept pushing the limits in my desire to avoid life-altering surgery at all costs. In the end I became a poster-boy for Prednisone side-effects. I temporarily became diabetic (the drug can really mess with your blood sugar levels), my vision deteriorated & I developed cataracts at the age of 23, my muscles atrophied, my skin thinned & I developed skin tears & permanent stretch marks, I had full-blown "moon-face", my appetite was voracious (so I gained weight, but that wasn't too bad or what caused the stretch marks), I couldn't sleep at night--yet I was always exhausted, my bone density diminished over time, I developed several infections, I occasionally had mood swings, I got migraines pretty frequently, I had persistent joint pain, & my teeth became pretty sensitive. Eventually when I decided to come off the drug (because I needed surgery), I had to be weened off of it extremely slowly because by body's adrenal glands had stopped functioning properly. I'm sure I left out some other side-effects, but i'm sure you get the point.
The bottom line is that while this drug is WONDERFUL at treating a wide range of afflictions, it should only be used for a short period of time. If you need to use this drug for an extended period of time, it's really not worth it & you need to find an alternative medication or just have surgery. I was foolish and relied on the drug too heavily for far too long & I now regret not giving in sooner avoiding these awful side-effects, which became just as bad as the disease the drug was treating.
Proceed with caution.
