Synthroid - mike_a - 07-01-2009

I take this every day to treat my hypothyroidism. I did not suffer extreme symptoms like some have reported before I was diagnosed, but I do notice if I go off the medicine for a while that my energy levels decrease. It is important to have your doctor recheck your hormone levels regularly when taking this medication to make sure that your dosage is correct.

Zyrtec - Lane - 07-01-2009

While Zyrtec receives much promotion and has produced positive effects, it does not rank as high as another allergy product. I do get relief from these tablets and can take one any time without fear of dizziness or drowsiness, but it is not my first choice for relief from congestion and runny eyes/nose/etc. I do carry them with me, and they do produce fast relief which unfortunately only lasts for a short time (about 6 hours). I have not experienced any side-effects, and my twenty-year old son finds relief from them as well.

Flonase - Lane - 07-01-2009

Havin suffered from serious sinusitis my entire life, I was prescribed Flonase for the purpose of preventing my symptoms. I was instructed to use this inhaler before venturing outdoors for any activity at any time during the year. On my first use, I had a very unusual and frightening experience. My nasal passages rejected the medication violently by (in my words) attacking the medication with an extreme volume of foamy white. The rather explosive volume did not cease for at least 15 minutes, after which I used another nasal spray to remove any traces of the medication from my sinus passages. I attempted to use my Flonase inhaler on at least one other occasion with similar but less resulting side-effect. I discontinued the use and have never tried it again. I have never had a similar experience from any other allergy medication.

Allegra - Lane - 07-01-2009

I had taken several other prescription allergy medications during my lifetime. I suffer from allergies relating to outdoor plants, especially oak pollen which is extremely heavy for many months where I live in the South. The only other medication that I had taken for any length of time caused kidney infections; most others offered me little or no relief. I began taking Allegra and had immediate positive results. While the recommended dosage was one tablet every 12 hours, I found that on days that I experienced my worst symptoms and knew that I would not be able to sleep, I took one tablet an hour before bedtime, and it lasted for nearly a full 24 hours. I was able to enjoy a great night's sleep and continue to breathe through the following work day. I have experienced no side-effects what so ever.

Motrin Migraine Pain - Willson - 07-01-2009

I find this medication is midly effective for pain control, but more importantly it is effective as an anti-inflammatory. I believe that most of the pain I suffer from is due to inflammation of the tissue surrounding joints and sinus cavities. The inflammation is most noticible in my hands and feet. This could be early onset arthritis. Because I live in the south east, sinus infections are common. If I can relieve sinus inflammation, then it is possible to prevent debilitating sinus infections, which always require stronger antibiotics. As time has progressed, I find that I take more tablets at increased frequency. In order to avoid overuse, I switch this medication with another analgesic. This med is supposed to be taken every 4 hours, this time frame does not maintain an adequate amount of the drug in my system, therefore I take aspirin or acetominiphin two hours after the ibuprofen, then at the four hour mark I take another ibuprofen. Essentially I take meds every 2 hours when I have certain types of pain. If there is no relief, I then take vicodin so that the pain is not as noticible. When ever I take too much ibuprofen I get a ringing in my ears that takes all day to resolve.

Vicodin - Karen - 07-01-2009

I recently had carpel tunnel surgery on my right hand. I was prescribed Vicodin which worked very well for the pain. Vicodin made me very drowsy, so I was able to sleep through most of the first few days. I stopped taking it after 3-4 days. I am having the left hand done soon and I will ask for Vicodin to get me through the worst part.

Miconazole 7 - Karen - 07-01-2009

I have used Monistat on and off over the past 30 years. Originally I needed an Rx for it, but I am so happy it's otc now. I don't have yeast infections often, but when it starts, you want to get relief immediately, not wait for a doctor appointment. The suppository works very well, usually with results by the next morning. The downside is the mess you get sometimes, but it is worth it.

When pollen season comes Allegra is my best friend. It works. I stopped taking Claritin as it was not as effective and it made me drowsy.

I take it religiously at the same time that I take my vitamins.

Estraderm MX 25 - Karen - 07-01-2009

I used the Estraderm Transdermal Patch for about 5 years after having a total hysterectomy. It helped to regulate my moods and stopped the hot flashes. The only downside was the ring I had around my mid-section from moving the patch each week. It took weeks for them to fade from bright red, so midriff baring clothes didn't work!

Claritin-D - Craig Allen - 07-01-2009

This was a difficult medication for me. I have taken clartin for years without a problem but the reaction I had to the Pseudophedrine was unbelieveable. For more than 12 hours I became dizzy and my eyes would not focus. Quite honestly it felt more like a tough painkiller than an alergy tablet.
The product did work exactly as advertised but the cure was almost worse than the allergy. I cannot recomend this product based on my personal experience.

Inderal-LA - Karen - 07-01-2009

I was diagnosed with migraines about 10 years ago, after years of being told they were tension headaches. My doctor prescribed Inderal LA as a beta blocker, and I rarely have migraines anymore. This was life-changing for me because I would have 10-12 migraines a month. They were debilatating - I would have to lie down in a dark room until the pain subsided. I have no side-effects at all with this medicine.

Zestril - Craig Allen - 07-01-2009

This drug does exactly what is advertised. It has lowered my BP on avarage 15-20 points on both numbers. The drug is also not brutally expensive so if you are without insurance this may be an option.
There is one warning I would provide with this medication. If you cough easilly this drug may not be for you. During the initial period of taking this medication I had terible trouble with the itchy throat that is a possible side effect. Others I have talked to had the same difficulty.

I was having problems with my right hand going numb during the night and I would wake up. I used a splint to try to immobilize the hand plus the Advil PM to help me get to sleep and stay asleep. I recently had carpel tunnel surgery and no longer need to take Advil PM. It worked well and I would recommend it.

Prilosec - Craig Allen - 06-30-2009

I have had real heartburn in the past and this has been the only consistant medication to provide regular relief. Please note this is a delayed reaction kind of drug. The bad news is that it takes a couple days to kick in. The good news is that if you skip a day you might not be immediately punished. It is not a wonder drug that will allow for me to eat peppers 24-7 but it does allow for a normal diet and a normal lifestyle.

Paxil - Turklet - 06-30-2009

Paxil was the first drug prescribed to me when I was deeply clinically depressed. It was extraordinarily helpful. I initially experienced some of the usual side effects, such as queasiness, but they resolved fairly quickly. Recovering from depression was a gradual process, but this drug made it possible and I felt "normal" for the first time in years.

However, after a few years I had to switch drugs. Paxil made me tired all the time and had a numbing effect on the way I felt. My doctor reduced the dose gradually over months, but I finally decided I was feeling "drugged" too much of the time and had to get off Paxil.

Advair Diskus 250/50 - JN27 - 06-30-2009

This medication was given to supplement oral asthma medications when I was having to use my "rescue inhaler" too frequently.

At the prescribed two times per day, I experienced feelings of anxiety and racing pulse, and joint pain. I now use it, on average, once every couple days. It does provide beneficial effect, and at the lower frequency of usage, my side effects are eliminated.

I find it easy to take the medication, except for the requirement to rinse out my mouth after using it.

Allegra-D 12 Hour - JN27 - 06-30-2009

I have many environmental allergies (pollens, mold, dander). I have tried numerous other allergy medicines in the past 25 years, and Allegra-D works the best.

I still find that I need to supplement it with additional antihistamines when allergen levels are very high. I have not experienced any side effects when using this medication.

I started taking Zyflo for my allergic asthma when Singular stopped being effective. The Zyflo significantly reduced the number of times I needed to use my rescue inhaler, while not causing any additional side-effects.

The only negative part of using the medication is the requirement to get blood tests regularly to determine if liver function is being impaired.

Wellbutrin - Angela - 06-30-2009

I have been taking Welbutrin for several years. It has helped me lose my suicidal urges, and to once again rejoin society. I still have days where I feel a bit down, so I'm not flat. Nor am I so hyped up to be manic. It's a nice feeling of normalcy.
The only problem I have with the medication is that it is slowly raising my blood pressure. I've also found it very difficult to lose any weight while taking this medication. I am also prone to vertigo since a infection in my inner ear, and the Welbutrin can aggravate it when I'm tired or get a cold.
I will put up with these side effects, mainly because they are not debilitating, for the simple reason that Welbutrin allows me to live a close to normal life.
