I recently went to the emergency room because of an extreme tooth ache. They gave me vicodin to help me manage the pain until I could get to the dentist. I was supposed to take one every 6 hours or so.

The vicodin didn't seem to help me much at all. It dulled the pain, but not enough. I tried taking more than I was supposed to and found that taking two of them made the pain manageable, but also made me nauseous.

I was also prescribed Vicodin after having my wisdom teeth pulled. It was recommended to me that I take the pain killer 2-3 hours after surgery, as the local anesthetic would wear off in that period of time.

So I took it after two hours or so---as soon as I felt a small amount of pain. I only took one pill, but it literally made me high. I was more talkative and outgoing. But I gradually started to feel more and more nauseous and tired, until I finally had to lay down because it was too much.

I slept for an hour. When I got up, I thought I felt better. But after about 20-30 minutes, I started to feel extremely nauseous and tired again, so I took another nap. I was fine when I woke up this time. However, I vowed never to use this medication again due to its unpleasant effects.

I have used Vicodin several times for pain, anything from migraines to moderate pain. I used it after by surgery and it worked well for the pain. Sometime you need to take an additional pill or two but overall it is very effective for its intended purpose.

The effect may be slightly weaker in my body type but it will vary in every person.

Recently, the FDA wants to regulate more strictly and/or ban Vicodin because it is mixed with acetaminophen. Best of luck with it if necessary.

I recently had my wisdom teeth removed and was prescribed Vicodin because of the pain that was sure to come. After 24 hours, the pain of the operation started to set in. I took the prescribed dosage of Vicodin and i felt so much better. There were no noticeable side effects after taking the medicine except some drowsiness. I highly recommend taking Vicodin if you are in a lot of pain because it really helped me out.

I was given Vicodin one time at an emergency room when I was having a severe migraine. The pain was so bad that I was banging my head on the wall and crying horribly.

They let me rest with some IV fluids for a while and then sent me home with a prescription for the Vicodin. My husband and I stopped at the pharmacy to get the prescription filled. I went inside to fill it and passed out in the middle of the isle for about 5 seconds. No one saw it happen so I crawled to the pharmacy counter, nearly scared them half to death, and asked where the bathroom was. I managed to get off the floor and hurry to the bathroom where I immediately began vomitting. I was so dizzy and sick.

My husband finally came looking for me and took me home. I have never taken Vicodin since.

I obtained this prescription after having my wisdom teeth removed. It certainly did help reduce the pain of dry socket, but not without some side effects. I found that reducing the recommended dose reduced the initial nausea associated with taking it. Also the drug seemed to give me symptoms that mimic a low-grade fever such as mild confusion and dizziness and hot flashes. However, the effectiveness of an opiate-based painkiller such as this is well worth the side effects to me.

This medication controlled pain effectively from a C-section. I actually found I was fine with only half the dosage initially prescribed. It did not make me feel "drugged," but relieved my pain enough that I could care for my newborn infant.

There were two negatives, which were somewhat related. For one, the pills made me extremely nauseous. Also, they messed up my digestive system (constipation) so severely that I had to stop taking them.

I had a root canal done on my front tooth. I was in unbearable pain. I could not sleep or eat. I could not function.
After using Hydrocodone, I was able to function normally. It did cause constipation, but this was less then the pain that I felt from my root canal.

I had my wisdom teeth removed over the summer and what the doctor originally had prescribed was not helping. After taking vicodin, I haven't felt any pain. I have not seen any signs of addiction yet. All i can say is that it is a wonderful product!

This is the first pain-control drug I was prescribed after a crash, and once the morphine from the ER wore off I was glad I had vicodin. It not only controlled the pain but allowed me to sleep & heal.

I was slightly constipated, but it was easily managed. I was also not very hungry, had to be reminded to eat, but I don't know if that's a side effect.

This worked very well for me and I had no problem with addiction.

This drug has really worked well for me so far. After having surgery to repair a completly torn ACL and a torn MCL, my doctor prescribed me Vicodin. I had actually heard of it before after watching "House" on Fox and House becomes addicted to Vicodin after a surgery to repair his leg. But so far, addiction has not been a problem for me and Vicodin has not shown any side effects on me.

I was given these for a few surgeries in the past mostly was on them for 2 weeks. I try not staying on pain meds cause I hear alot of people get addicted to them but for pain these worked really well for me last time I was given these was when I had surgery a month ago on removal of a brest lump and in all honesty I never had one bit of pain left while takeing these.

I was prescribed Vicodin following a wisdom tooth extraction. Having the Vicodin definitely reduced the amount of pain I felt while recovering. This was a big relief to me, since often over-the-counter pain relievers such as acetaminophen alone are not very effective for me.

I recently had carpel tunnel surgery on my right hand. I was prescribed Vicodin which worked very well for the pain. Vicodin made me very drowsy, so I was able to sleep through most of the first few days. I stopped taking it after 3-4 days. I am having the left hand done soon and I will ask for Vicodin to get me through the worst part.

This drug was given to me after surgery for breast removal due to cancer. I was sent home with it from the hospital. After the first day I started to develop symptoms that I knew were not normal. My face and neck turned bright red and looked rashy. My lips swelled and were numb. I was sick to my stomach. It was worse than the surgery and know that I can never take this medication.

I have been prescribed Vicodin many times for a variety of painful conditions. It has been prescribed for pain related to post-dental procedures, subsequent to automobile accidents, and also for sports-related broken ribs and sprianed appendages (both wrist and ankle).

Vicodin is very useful and definitely will cause one to not focus on one's pain. I have become accustomed to requesting it specifically whenever I am in serious pain and one should not be shy about asking for it from one's physician whenever it is generally indicated. Taken as directed and on a short-term basis, it is easily discontinued once painful conditions become less intense.

When I broke my arm, it had splintered into small pieces and hurt far worse than I expected it to, judging from other injuries. The doctor prescribed me Vicodin shortly after my arm had broken, up to about halfway through the healing process when a lot of the splintering had started to heal. This worked far better than the normal round of pain medications I had used for other broken bones, so I would prefer using this if I were injured again. There were very few side effects and it allowed me to keep functioning without feeling sick or tired.

I have several injuries that cause me chronic pain that can occasionally get aggravated. On those occasions Vicodan is by far the one that alleviates the pain while still allowing me to function and get through my day without being totally miserable.
Unfortunately, I have found resistance from my doctors for prescribing Vicodan even though I rarely need to use it and my prescriptions are infrequent they almost always try to steer me to other drugs which have never had as satisfactory results.

I was prescribed Vicodin after a recent tooth extraction. The dentist assured me that the strength of the dosage wouldn't knock me out completely, which I was concerned about. The pain from my pulled tooth was minimal after taking the Vicodin, and although I was somewhat drowsy afterward, it did not put me to sleep for half the day, as I had feared it might.

I experienced some stomach cramps while taking Vicodin, and I was not able to alleviate that until I stopped taking the medication. I was told that this is a common side-affect, but I was not prepared for the severity of the cramps, and the constant discomfort they caused me. Next time I will inquire about an alternative to better suit my needs.

I have patella femoral syndrome and have had it for about 5 years now. The pain comes and goes and when it gets really bad it hurts to much to walk. I have taken vicodin off and on during this time to help with the pain. Vicodin helps out a tremendous amount but it makes me very tired so I can only take it on days that I don't work. Unfortunately, those are the days that I need it the most.
Overall it is a great pain reliever with few side effects

As a diagnosed migraine sufferer – Vicodan is one of the medications prescribed for me that will enable me to continue my daily routine. My job is a very physical one, often requiring hours on my feet in the hot sun. Many of my migraine’s come from the tension in my shoulders and upper back, and with the onset of these symptoms I can take a Vicodan and relieve the pain before it turns into a debilitating migraine.

As for me there have been no side effects, but I usually try to eat when I take it to keep my stomach settled. It’s a great product I will continue to use.

I have been prescribed Vicodin for my chronic back pain. I take about 2-3 pills a day on the days when my back is giving me a lot of trouble, and it's been wonderfully helpful for me.
Vicodin is a drug which can be a huge help especially when over the counter drugs fail. I could take huge amounts of ibuprofen, aspirin, or alleve, and never get close to the therapeutic effect that vicodin gives me.
Made sure you eat something or drink milk with the Vicodin, because it can really cause stomach upset as a side effect. As soon as your pain begins, that's the best time to take it so that it has time to work. I think Vicodin has been a big help to me, and I will continue to use it.

After having had a number of surgeries for various health issues, I found that my painkiller of choice is Vicodan. During my last surgery (a total knee replacement), I was given several pain killers to begin with, the first making me worse and really out of it mentally, and the second did nothing to relieve my pain. Finally I convinced the doctor that I was aware of Vicodan and knew how to control my use of it and how to slowly wean myself off of it as the pain lessened.

I had a compound fractures in my right arm . I was prescribed vicodin for the pain for about a month. It did work very well for that purpose . It did no make me drowsy, instead i was very energized.
The down side is when I stopped taking it I felt like absolute crap. I've taken this medication in the past for shorter periods of time for minor injuries but never for this long. I think that my body had become addicted to it and the withdrawls were almost as bad as the pain .
So my review is... it's great for short term use, but horrible if taken for any length of time.

I had to use this after going to the ER when I got a piece of metal in my eye after working on my car. By the time I took the medicine is was about 1 am and I was told by the ER doctor that it would knock me out. Well it did the exact opposite and made me hyper and I couldn't sleep.
I didn't feel any pain while i was on it but I think that's because I didn't have the metal in my eye anymore so I don't know how much it truly worked for me.

Other than the first night not being able to sleep I didn't have any other side effects from this medication It seems pretty safe and I didn't have any problems taking it. I didn't take it for long periods but it did seem to do it's job.

When I had to have my wisdom teeth removed surgically, I was prescribed Vicodin for the pain. It was a quite painful procedure in which four of my teeth were extracted. I was given a three weeks prescription for the drug and was told to take about two a day.

It worked very well for its intended purpose, which was to stop the pain. When I did not take them, there was a substantial difference in the amount of pain. Vicodin definitely does what it is intended to do. As far as side-effects, it did cause a slight disorientation and slight drowsiness. It is definitely not recommended to operate machinery of any sort while on this drug. For its purpose, it does a great job.
